Stowaway Cat Goes Home

We all know the story about the cat in the hat, but do you know about the cat in the box?

Meatloaf, a two-year-old house cat, survived three weeks inside a locked PODS storage container that was shipped from Pompano Beach, Fla., to Phoenix, Ariz.

Meatloaf had crawled into the crate as a man loaded it for shipment on Jan. 31. On Feb. 19, an employee of Portable On Demand Storage of Phoenix heard Meatloaf’s meows. After permission was granted by the owner, the container was opened … and there was Meatloaf, emaciated but spunky after three weeks without food and water.

The five-pound cat was given to the Arizona Humane Society for immediate care; they believe he lost half his body weight while in the crate. Meatloaf’s owner was contacted and the two were reunited on March 4.
