NPSA Offers Facebook Alternative

Facebook is in the news again with plans to build the social web. The leading social networking site announced changes to build a more comprehensive map of connections and create a better, more social experience across dozens of sites on the Internet.

But portable storage industry companies that want to connect with potential vendors and partners are looking to the National Portable Storage Association’s (NPSA) social networking community. NPSA offers a unique value proposition to portable storage industry players.

“We partnered with ThePort Network to launch an industry-specific social networking experience for our members last year because many professionals in our industry don’t want to fully engage with consumer-oriented social media sites that don’t offer the ability to find other vendors and partners as easily,” says John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director the NPSA. “We don’t have 450 million members, but the members we do have are highly focused on one thing: portable storage.”

The community includes Groups that let members with similar interests connect. Within groups, you can have conversations, share photos, and create a group specific events calendar. Meanwhile, Forums allow members to discuss important topics, a Photo Gallery lets members upload and share images, and Blogs let members express themselves and share their wisdom.

“We’re not knocking Facebook, but for portable storage professionals who don’t want the distraction that comes along with consumer-oriented social networks, the NPSA is the ideal online community,” says NPSA Operations Manager Joel Rathbone. “We encourage our members to take some time to explore, interact with, and enjoy our social networking community.”
