NPSA Social Networking Group Gains Momentum
The National Portable Storage Association (NPSA) recently contributed to a case study in cooperation with ThePort, a social networking and social media solutions company for associations, nonprofits, and media organizations. The case study chronicles the NPSA’s experience with a tailored social platform. The study begins with the reasons for the NPSA launching a social network: Facebook and LinkedIn networks were too limiting for the special needs of the association.
“We chose ThePort to offer the back end for our social network because it ties directly into our existing database,” says John Finnessy, CMP, executive director of the NPSA. “ThePort was able to custom fit a social media community based on the special needs of our membership and our industry-specific discussions.”
The community includes groups that let members with similar interests connect. Within groups, you can have conversations, share photos, and create a group specific events calendar. A photo gallery lets members upload and share images, and blogs allow members express themselves and share their wisdom.
“ThePort gave us a fully-branded online community that makes it easy for our members to connect online and meet new industry players,” says Joel Rathbone, operations manager for the NPSA. “Our members can now share local business information, discuss regional issues, post events, and build new relationships on our social networking hub.”
